pech rakhate ho bahut saaj-o-dastaar ke biich
mai.n ne sar girte hue dekhe hai.n baazaar ke biich

[pech = anger; saaj-o-dastaar = turban]

baaG_baano.n ko ajab ranj se takate hai.n gulaab
gul_farosh aaj bahut jamaa hai.n gul_zaar ke biich

[ranj = sorrow; gul_farosh = flower sellers]

kaj adaao.n kii inaayat hai ki ham se ushshaaq
kabhii diivaar ke piichhe kabhii diivaar ke biich

[kaj - crooked; ushshaaq = lovers]

tum ho naa_Khush to yahaa.N kaun hai Khush phir bhi 'Faraz'
log rahate hai.n isii shahar-e-dil-e-aazaar ke biich

ab naye saal kii mohalat nahii.n milane vaalii
aa chuke ab to shab-o-roz azaabo.n vaale

[mohalat = time; shab-o-roz = night and day; azaab = pain/misfortune]

ab to sab dashnaa-o-Kha.njar kii zubaa.N bolate hai.n
ab kahaa.N log muhabbat ke nisaabo.n vaale

[dashnaa = dagger]

na mere zaKhm khile hai.n na teraa ra.ng-e-hinaa
mausam aaye hii nahii.n ab ke gulaabo.n vaale
