Qasb hain aisey: na deykhey, na dikhaaye jaayen!
Dard kee nazm, bhalaa, aur kisliye gaayen?

Hazaar baar nigaahoun sey lahoo tapkaa hai;
Surkhgoon khoon-e-shafaq yeh, kisey diye jaayen?

Eik arsey sey choonaree naheen badal paayee:
Daag hain laakh, baar-baar kisey dikhalaayen?

Woh magrabee hai, mashriqee mein, dooriyaan hain bahut;
Qareeb ho to phusphusaa key usey batalaayen?

Guftagoo naam ko hotee hai, ishaarey zyaadah;
May-e-khayaal hai, kab tak yahee piye jaayen?

Jaa rahaa hoon, ki, ab to aayen: abhee haazir hoon:
Jaan nikley to usey saath hee liye jaayen!

Woh chaarahgar hai, maraaham bhi hain usee key, 'abd',
Woh, bulaaney pai na aaye, to, kyoun jiye jaayen?
