Khudbkhud shaakh-o-gul naheen hiltey!
Bin chaley raah, paa naheen chhiltey!!

Baatinee ghaaw diye hain un ney;
Chaarahgar bhi jinhain naheen siltey!

Yaad aatee hai baarahaa; leykin,
Khwaab key hamsafar naheen miltey!

Laakh hon chaand-sitaarey, fir bhee,
Phool aakaash mein naheen khiltey!!

Past hai talab-e-intizaar, ‘abd’,
Ab, faqat wa’aydey nahen jhiltey!
