Aankh kyon baar-baar rotee hai?
Zindagee kyon udaas hotee hai?
Yom-e-meelaad hai, fanaa bhee hai;
Khuld kee rooh jinhain botee hai!

आँख क्यों बार-बार  रोती है ?
ज़िन्दगी क्यों उदास होती है ?
योमे मीलाद है, फ़ना भी है ;
ख़ुल्द की रूह जिन्हें बोती है !
