woh shaks kuch der roo-ba-roo hua fir gujar  gaya,
dard e dil sambhla na gaya  aankho se nikal  gaya,

jo tufaa,n kabhi utha tha samunder main is kadar,
woh badi teji se badha kareeb aate aate thum gaya,

dekha na gaya fijaao,n ki bhadti hui be-rukhi ko,
is behti man magan sabaa ka bhi rukh badal sa gaya,

mustaaq reha karta tha main har waqt zindagi main
shorish ka waqt gujara tabassum  karna bhool gaya,

guftgu karta hu akser tanhai main bethkar khud se,
jo naiyyar nikla tha taaziyaat se kaha cheep gaya,

nawa date rahe har kisiko masaafat jane ke liye,
har koi gaam se gaam milakar bich raah chore gaya,

shab e firaaq aaj bhi yaad aati hai to rote hai,
woh jo gaya lout ke na aaya taa-aabab chala  gaya,
