                     qandeel main quwat nahin jo'andhon'ko roshni de..,
                     kitaab  main quwat nahin jo jahil ko aqal de..,

                     'rukh' se zulf kyon hataaon kisi ke liye..,
                     yeh patthar to nahin raah ka jo takleef de..,

                     chaman unse kyon cheenu ek phool ke liye..,
                     ye roti to nahin gharibon ka jo pet bhar de..,
            
                     apne husn ko kyon numaaya karoon sab ke liye..,
                     ye koi 'ilm' to nahin zamaney ka jo bhala kar de..,

                     apne alfaaz kyon sajaon ek ghazal ke liye..,
                     ye koi taqreer to nahin jo samaaj ko paigham de..,
          
                     kyon loon sahara kisi ka apni shohrat ke liye..,
                     yeh koi chiraag to nahin jo hamesha roshni de..,

                     khud ko mita kar dekh sheba auron ke liye..,
                     ye wo jazba hai jo hamesha ek khusboo de..,
