KARWAA CHAUTH

There was a reason she was
so romantic about the moon.
It never asked for questions
or begged for the answers
nor did she ever have to
prove herself to it.
It was always just there –
breathing, shining in
most ways humans can’t
understand listening.

Hindu auratein aasman ke chaand par yun fidaa hain
Har karwaa chauth kaa barat torhte waqt woh kyun...
Apne chaand ko aasman kaa chaand dikhaatee hain
Usse chandaa maamaa khud ko bhehan bataati hain
Chaand unhein kuchh bhi karne pe swaal nahin kartaa
Naa shaq kartaa hai naa shaq kaa jawaab maangtaa hai
Har waqt hee woh sab ko dekh, muskraataa hee lagtaa hai
Hai to woh dhartee kaa hee ek tukrhaa aasman par chaand...
Magar saans letaa jagmagaataa pyaar kartaa hee lagtaa hai
Jaise ke har bashar koi gaer nahin jigree dost hee ho uss kaa...
Kaash ke hum usskee thandak detee chaandni samajh sakte
Mohabbat samajh sakte aur ussee ke nashey mein jee sakte
