daagh-e-dil ka mere hisaab hai ye
tere jalwoN ka intikhaab hai ye

(intikhaab = collection)


roo-e-jaanaaN pe jo itaab hai ye
hai ye toofaan ya habaab hai ye

(roo = face, itaab = anger, habaab = bubble)


dasht-e-tanhaayee meiN kisee ka khayaal
aablaa-paa ko jyooN saraab hai ye

(aablaa-paa = a person with blisters on feet, saraab = mirage)


bal shuaaoN ke se parhe jaate
ke jabeeN bhi to aaftaab hai ye

(shuaaoN = rays, jabeeN = forehead)


chheel kar guzree thi gudaaz badan
sub’he baad-e-shab aab-aab hai ye

(gudaaz = soft, baad-e-shab = night breeze, aab-aab = ashamed)


dekhnaa yooN tera meree jaanib
kuchh naheeN hai agar to khwaab hai ye

(jaanib = towards)


ek mehraab-e-qasr-e-husn ke phir
rukh pe gesoo ka ik naqaab hai ye

(mehraab-e-qasr-e-husn = entrance gate to the palace of beauty)


thi yahee chashm qaasid-e-qurbat
ab hayaa ka banee hijaab hai ye

(qaasid = messenger, qurbat = closeness / intimacy)


nazr-e-saaqee ka ye suroor n to
sab ko ik see milee sharaab hai ye


kuchh bhi anjaam-e-ishq ho yaaroN
kuchhh sawaab aur kuchh azaab hai ye

(sawaab = reward, azaab = punishment)


shab sahar khaar gul wafaat hayaat
aap job hi kaheiN janaab hai ye

(sahar = morning, khaar = thorns, wafaat = death, hayaat = life)


hai khirad ko sawaal “zarraa” kathin
dil ko lekin saral jawaab hai ye

(khirad = intellect)
