Odie used to belong to Lyman, Jon's roommate. But after 3 weeks staying with Jon and Garfield, Lyman left and Odie stayed, becoming one of the central and most loved characters of the comic strips
According to Garfield, Odie is dumber than a rock - and it could be true, maybe... is obvious that Odie isn't too clever, but it doesn't mean he can't have his moments
The poor Odie puts up with abuse by Garfield every day: being punted off the side of the table, being glued to the wall, and so many things... however, although they never really get along, we all know that they're, actually, best friends who can't be without each other
Odie's psyical apperance has changed through the years - just about as much as Garfield's, if not more. I've found different information concerning Odie's first appearance in the comic strips... it was in 1978, but some websites say it was the 8th August and others that it was the 10th August, so I'm not sure at all (click here to view the 1st comic strip with Odie in it
. Back then, Odie was a lot skinier, had smaller eyes, legs and tongue and had also black ears - that Jim Davis wanted to change because of a certain dog who had also black ears, Snoopy... so, the ears were turned brown, white when the comic strip was in black & white.

Garfield is one of my favourite comics/animation series and I love all the characters, but my soft point is Odie without a doubt. I think he's one of the most cute and lovable cartoon dogs ever <3 and that's why I've decided to make this fanlisting. The title is simply Good doggie! because nobody could deny that Odie is a good dog - maybe too good sometimes, I'd never let someone abuse me that way, as Garfield does with him xD
